FREE Key of Kilenya eBook! + Giveaway! (Guest Post)

Hi, Everyone!  My name  is Andrea Pearson, and I'm thrilled to announce that my book.  The Key of Kilenya was published today as an eBook!!

I'm sooo excited about this book and to hear what other people think of it! It is a young adult fantasy, geared to people age 12 and older, including adults (who also love it). If you want to see me describe the book, watch this YouTube video:

It's similar to Harry Potter, Fablehaven, and the Pendragon series. Geared to those age groups, and full of magic! All of the fantasy creatures are made up – never having been used before, since they're from my imagination. :-)

A couple of cool tidbits:
It has received attention from movie studios and will most likely be made into a movie in a few years!  It was read by three well-known NY Times Bestselling Authors who were positive it would be a bestseller.  It's the first book of six.

As a way to engage people and help spread the word, I've decided not to put a price to the eBook for the next few weeks. If you have an ereader, go to my book page on Smashwords to download it for free (the print version will be available in a few weeks, albeit not for free :-)):

GIVEAWAY:

I'm also putting on a contest to celebrate the release of this book  and to help spread the word. The deadline for the contest is June 30th, so only two days away. It has been going on for about two weeks now, but anyone can enter at any time.

The prizes for the contest are amazing! They include:
$25 Amazon gift card
Earrings (I'll be making them - they'll have key(s) on them. :-))
My entire Kilenya Series on eBook for FREE (That's six free eBooks!! Book two is coming out in August)
Me to read, edit, offer opinion on first 4 pages of a beginner writer's manuscript (Word Document, double spaced)
Necklace with a key on it - made especially for the winner (there won't be other necklaces like it in the whole world)
Hair flowers – made by me
Autographed, personalized copy of my book (when the physical version is available)
$10 iTunes gift card
Karen Hoover's eBook
The Sapphire Flute (AMAZING!!! I just finished reading it and loved it!)
Jenni James' book
Pride and Popularity - autographed, personalized. (It's coming out mid-July) This book is REALLY making waves right now. I've read it and a few of her other books. She's an excellent author! Her books are modern re-writes of Jane Austen's stories.

So, as you see, there are plenty of awesome things to win.  And the more people who enter, the more of the above prizes will be available.

Because you'll be joining in on the fun a little late, some of your entries may be different from what others have done. Entries come from: reading my book and answering questions about the chapters, helping me spread the word about my book, and helping spread the word about other people's books.

If you only have time to do a few entries, please choose those that'll help me tell other people about The Key of Kilenya.

If you and your children all want to enter, that's fine, just so long as you enter separately, and don't count one task for all of you—each person needs to complete the tasks on their own.

One more thing to note: you'll find a lot of references to the website Wattpad. It's the world's largest online community for readers and writers, and they've been helping me promote my story. (For free – yeah, they're amazing. :-))

If you'd like to learn more about me, you can visit my author page on Smashwords.

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to getting to know you!

Andrea

Freezer Homemade Fries & Sauce

I LOVE fries!  I would make them more but it seems like a hassle when I'm trying to get dinner ready, kids are screaming, and I'm trying to dodge cheerios on the floor.

Then along came freezer fries and my life is far richer (lol)....not the ones you buy at the store that kinda look potato-like, but the real things.  They are also MUCH cheaper.   So instead of letting your potatoes sit around, and hoping that you remember to use them, you can make fries....yum....

To see my post on what to do with a 10lb. bag of potatoes go to The Coupon Project.

First wash and scrub potatoes ( I don't peel because I think it's miserable work)
Cut into 1/2 inch fries
Toss with oil (I usually use Canola)
Add salt and a little sugar (makes them crispy)

Place them on a baking sheets and bake at 475 for 20 minutes (they will only be half cooked)
After baking, let them cool on paper or dish towels Put in freezer on sheet (I have a small freezer so I used pie tins) Let them freeze solid (ab…

Gardner Village Series: Country Furniture & Gifts

Gardner Village is a local treasure. If you've never found your way down there, October is the month to do it!  The shop owners love Halloween! The village becomes a witch village and many times, shop owners will even dress up.   On my most recent trip to Gardner Village, I stopped in at Country Furniture & Gifts which is a store very ready for Halloween.

The store is located in part of the old restored flour mill built in 1877 by Archibald Gardner in West Jordan, Utah.  The store is very family oriented and houses many built-to-last items such as dining room tables, sofas, beds and chairs.  They are also famous for their rug room where many of their rugs are still USA made. As they say, "A rug makes a huge impact for a minimum investment to any room."

The home accessories and giftware are amazing!  They have all sorts of decor for all sorts of personalities. Please be sure to pay them a visit.  It's worth it!

What to do with Apricots: Homemade Fruit Leather

If you have access to an apricot tree I highly suggest making fruit leather.  This was my first time attempting any kind of dried fruit and it turned out heavenly!

Apricot Fruit Leather

cinnamon
nutmeg
lemon juice
1/2 c water

Add apricots and a 1/2 c of water to a saucepan on low heat.
Cover, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.
Add sugar 1 T at a time till it tastes good
Add lemon juice 1 tsp at a time to taste
Add cinnamon to taste
Add nutmeg to taste - I did a lot of tastin'!! :)
Simmer for 5 minutes on low heat until thickened a bit

In batches add mixture to a blender
Blend until smooooooooth
Prepare baking sheet: line with microwaveable safe plastic wrap
Add mixture to sheet about 1/4 inch thick

MAKE SURE the plastic wrap doesn't fold over mixture and that it doesn't touch your oven
